Overall, what a nostalgic trip back to an era of film I had only remembered as a child. The United States armed forces have a lead on a suspected terrorist in Baluchistan, Pakistan. The ending felt a bit rushed, but the whole experience ended up being very enjoyable. The editing was fine, the writing was OK, but the production design and pacing were perfection. However, the action set pieces themselves were really bombastic and cool to watch play out, especially the highway car chase towards the junkyard. The cinematography was not that impressive since the action sequences were mostly overusing shaky-cam. Billy Bob Thornton and Rosario Dawson play very generic characters, and Michael Chiklis had nothing to do really. Michelle Monaghan, on the other hand does not get that much development other than being a mother, which was unfortunate. I mean that he reacts it a “holy crap, this is actually happening and I need to think and survive fast” kind of way, which was fun to watch. But when I say “realistically”, I mean not in a smart way, mind you. His character of Jerry Shaw was absolutely phenomenal, in the sense that he reacted to many events in the film realistically. Caruso executes here are straight-up ridiculous, I had a blast watching this sci-fi political thriller and I really enjoyed the tone of it all.Īfter finishing this, I truly forgot how great of an actor Shia LaBeouf really was at the time. They should renamed this film to “Well, that escalated quickly”. Even though the occasional shaky-can cinematography was annoying and overdone, and some of the ideas and concepts D.J. ![]() Wow, what a trip back to late-2000s filmmaking! I was not expecting this film to be as tense as this was, but I was truly invested the entire runtime of this film.
